Brand Ambassadors are responsible for the distribution and implementation of all marketing strategies for University Recreation. Members of this team will prepare and staff promotion tables, update all departmental signage around campus, and act as guest experience experts for our services. This group will also maintain all social media platforms for the department. The Brand Ambassadors should be dedicated to learning all facets of the department and hold an interest in promoting these offerings. This group will also work closely with the Creative Group and the Assistant Director to plan and execute signature events for the department, such as RecFest, the Gold Rush 5k, and the On the Green Golf Tournament. Members of the Brand Ambassador group will hold significant influence and responsibility in representing key pieces of the promotion and brand of the new recreational facility that is slated to open in Fall 2019.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Possess knowledge of/demonstrate an interest in learning about the programmatic areas within University Recreation
  • Plan and facilitate promotional tables and events around campus to engage students with our brand
  • Facilitate presentations to the University community upon request (academic courses, Residence Halls, Greek Life Organizations, and SOAR sessions, etc.)
  • Maintain all social media platforms for the department, including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and SnapChat
  • Research trends in the industry and present campaign ideas to the Assistant Director for implementation
  • Administer departmental guest satisfaction surveys, report findings, and suggest modifications
  • Regularly assess marketing strategy effectiveness/brand recognition to determine areas of opportunity
  • Research opportunities for partnerships and sponsorships with campus departments to further our brand
  • Co-plan, promote, and facilitate signature events (RecFest, 5K, Golf Tournament, etc.)
  • Act as a liaison for student body in the plan and implementation of marketing for the new recreation facility

Technical Requirements:

  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign or similar creative platforms

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greet all patrons as they enter the facility and provide quality customer service
  • Answer phone calls, record racquetball court and spin class reservations, and be able to provide basic Belk Gym and program information to patrons
  • Utilize access system to verify eligibility of facility use prior to patron entrance
  • Screen potential guests for eligibility as per guest pass policies
  • Maintain efficient laundry services and perform shift-specific cleaning duties
  • Provide equipment check-out services to patrons while inspecting returned equipment for damage
  • Provide tours to guests as necessary
  • To represent University Recreation in a professional manner at all times
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all patrons
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all University Recreation programs, policies, and procedures
  • Be able to activate the Emergency Action Plan

A Fitness Assistant is responsible for enforcing the rules and policies of the fitness center. Fitness Assistants are responsible for monitoring the fitness center and all the participants. They must be able to learn and independently demonstrate proper use of the all weight and cardio machines to patrons and be able to provide assistance when needed. Fitness Assistants are responsible for correctly identifying which muscle groups each machine targets. Additional responsibilities include cleaning the machines and cardio equipment, and practicing exceptional customer service.  Each Fitness Assistant must be able to independently recognize an emergency and provide appropriate care in a timely fashion. Morning, night and/or weekend hours are required. All Fitness Assistants must be First Aid/CPR/AED certified within 30 days of hire date. 

Job Requirements: 

  • Provide a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all participants
  • Visually recognize an emergency
  • Move quickly to respond to an emergency situation in a timely manner
  • Independently perform CPR if the situation requires such action
  • Verbally communicate via radio
  • Develop working knowledge of University Recreation Fitness Program to provide customer service in the Fitness Center (this includes Group Fitness, Personal Training, and upcoming Special Events/Trainings)

  • Independently adjust each machine to fit the patron’s needs
  • Verbally communicate usage instructions with patron
  • independently demonstrate proper use of all fitness equipment in SAC and Belk Fitness Centers
  • Submit appropriate reports using an iPad
  • Scan ID card for entry into facility
  • Independently operate Crestron panel to adjust music volume and channel selection to patrons
  • Operate a standard Mac desktop without assistance to perform general job duties
  • Provide assistance to patrons by correctly spotting basic lifts including but not limited to a squat, chest press, and shoulder press
  • Reach all parts of the Fitness Equipment in order wipe down entire machine to maintain cleanliness
  • Lift [up to] a 45lb plate to rerack it in its proper location without assistance
  • Answer phone calls and verbally communicate with caller to provide customer service

Education Requirements:

  • Must be a current UNC Charlotte student
  • Must not be working more than 20hrs/week in another on-campus position

Technical Requirements:

  • First Aid Certification (preferred)
  • CPR/AED Certification (preferred)
  • Must work at least 10 hours/week or 2 shifts/week
  • Must be available early mornings, nights and weekends

A Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for the leading multiple group fitness classes that range in variety and levels from Yoga to Hip Hop. This includes counting, cueing, organizing choreography, and much more.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe and fun environment for participants
  • Promote knowledge of proper group fitness components, i.e.: warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, etc.
  • Be knowledgeable in techniques and dynamics of Group Fitness
  • Possess knowledge in a variety of Group Fitness classes
  • Provide customer service to the patrons
  • Maintain the Group Fitness equipment and room
  • Possess knowledge the Student Activity Center (SAC) policies
  • Participate in Continuing Education Credits (CEC's or CEU's)

Requirements:

  • Must be current UNC Charlotte student and/or Faculty/Staff
  • Must have and maintain a current Fitness or Group Fitness related certification
  • Must have a current First Aid certification or equivalent
  • Must have a current Adult CPR certification or equivalent

Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for enforcing the policies and procedures of Intramural Sports. He/she must learn and enforce all rules of each sport. All Officials must attend training sessions to learn rules, mechanics, and positioning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Officiate all Intramural Sport league games and tournaments.
  • Attend all Officials training clinics.
  • Perform scorekeeping responsibilities at games according to program and sport rules and mechanics.
  • Assist with preparation, tear-down, and inspection of the game site.
  • Provide a safe environment for participants to compete.
  • Report results and scores of intramural games to the Sport Supervisors.
  • Call all intramural games with complete honesty and integrity.
  • Run pregame captains’ meetings prior to each game to highlight important rules, regulations, modifications and answer any questions that may arise.
  • Completion of availability through scheduling website.
  • Develop knowledge of the rules, positioning, and mechanics for each sport.
  • Act as a customer service representative for all participants and spectators.
  • Verify participant eligibility by ensuring all participants have a 49er ID card and are listed on their team roster.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to physically stand and run for brief and extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to commit to working a minimum of two nights a week/weekend.
  • Students must be currently enrolled with UNC Charlotte.
  • Maintain appropriate and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance.
  • Visually recognize an emergency.
  • Verbally communicate to participants and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous officiating experience.
  • Knowledge of game rules and intramural policies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Maintain pool safety both in and outside of the pool and pool deck
  • Represent University Recreation in a professional manner at all times
  • Greet all patrons as they enter the facility and establish a friendly environment through regular communication with patrons
  • Check the pool deck, water area, and safety equipment in preparation for opening the facility and report any maintenance issues
  • Make sound operational and personnel decisions based on established policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of all University Recreation policies and procedures
  • Ensure the departmental Emergency Action Plan (EAP) is properly implemented as necessary
  • Maintain accurate chemical testing inventory
  • Ability to set-up/take down facility equipment for programs and special events
  • Ensure hourly building usage statistics are accurately recorded
  • Ensure all daily paperwork is complete and accurate
  • Assist with special projects and tasks as assigned
  • Attend all staff trainings, meetings, and in-services

Requirements:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at UNC Charlotte in good academic standing
  • Must have a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR and AED certification or equivalent
  • Previous Lifeguard experience preferred
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with others
  • Willing to work morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours as scheduled
  • Be available to work a minimum of 10-12 hours during the week and weekends

An Office Assistant is responsible for helping the front desk during school hours. The Office Assistant will be required to greet patrons as they enter the office, answer phones and handle registration. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide excellent customer service skills
  • Have excellent written and verbal skills
  • Knowledge with a fax machine, copier, and laminator
  • Basic computer skills for both Mac and PC
  • Make copies of various training materials, league and class schedules

A Personal Trainer is responsible for tailoring a plan to specifically meet the fitness needs and goals of their client. Trainers are to lead the client and ensure the client meets their exercise goals by providing hands-on education and support.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide a safe and fun learning environment for clients
  • Promotion and education of exercise with clients, i.e.: muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular strength, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility
  • Knowledgeable in dynamics exercise
  • Provide customer service and information to potential clients
  • Knowledge of the SAC Fitness Center policies
  • Participate in Continuing Education Credits (CEC's or CEU's)

Requirements:

The purpose of this job is to assist sport clubs in their efforts to be a successful student-run organization. This position requires you to be a liaison between the sport clubs, University Recreation personnel and the UNC Charlotte campus as a whole. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Have set office hours during the week to:
    • Allow for clubs to meet with you
    • Check liability waivers on a regular basis
    • Track expenses of assigned clubs
    • Ensure proper travel documentation is completed
    • Submit facility requests for club events
  • The ability to:
    • Work one or more games most weekends
    • Receive van certification
    • Enforce parking regulations at designated field spaces
    • Keep constant contact with officers of assigned clubs
    • Attend practices of assigned clubs
  • Event management:
    • Help clubs with set-up/ tear-down of campus events
    • Provide all needs outlined in the facility request form
    • Ensure safety of all in attendance
    • Work with EMTs if a player or attendee is injured
    • Game site facility management
    • Act as a customer service representative for all participants and spectators

Requirements:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing at UNC Charlotte
  • Previous customer service experience is preferred
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a team and/or individually
